Establishing a Workout "Routine"

It was necessary to put the word “routine” in quotes because when it comes to fitness, I often lack consistency. This is the underlying reason that I chose a career in nutrition over something like personal training.

I’m might cause some controversy with this statement because it breaks many healthy living bloggers’ rules but….

 

I rarely plan my meals and I rarely plan my workouts.

 

Phew, feels good to have that off of my chest.

 

This is where I differ from ten thousand other healthy bloggers. But I have tried planning my meals and workouts before, and I never end up sticking to my plan. Despite this, it works for me. Sometimes a routine can cause boredom, which is why I thrive on change.

I know you’re thinking, “If you plan your workouts you will develop a routine”. Well, I’ve tried and this doesn’t work for me. It may work one week, but not the next so it never sticks.  Some weeks I have 2 or 3 tests or various papers and projects due. Therefore, I can’t just dedicate Sunday as my “off” day or Monday as my cardio day.

I tend to get on a kick for a while with something and then for whatever reason (my schedule changes/new commitments) my participation fades.  I have done it all: spinning, running, hiking, yoga, barre classes, and more. Right now, barre classes are by far my favorite (and preferred method) of exercise. However, I feel that I need to incorporate more cardio into my routine to see more results from these classes.

Since I’m making changes and trying to de-stress by taking more time for myself, I’m trying to establish a new routine. This week I’m going to “plan” ahead of time, stay tuned for the results!

 

Workouts for the Week:

  • Sunday: 2 mile run
  • Monday: rest
  • Tuesday: hot yoga
  • Wednesday: pure barre
  • Thursday: hot yoga
  • Friday: 2 mile run
  • Saturday: rest
